It was love as first sight and this wonderful bust is in our art collection. It was created in 2017, 75x49x70 cm. Modern elements were combined with ancient history to creat the work. Maybe this inclusion of modernity is an allusion to the revolutionary ideas of Pharaoh Ackhenaten and his wife Nefertiti, who in 1400 BCE dethroned Amun Re and established Aton as the new sun god. The old cults and rituals were replaced by new ones – an unheard of thing at the time. They changed art itself, with slender forms were introduced as we can see in the case of the famous bust of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum in Berlin. A very beautiful detail of the bust by Begi Guggenheim is the blue colour of the eye, which alludes to lapis lazuli, a material which was much in demand in ancient Egpyt and which was transported over thousands of kilometers from the only resource in Badakhshan, an area at the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. A kind of early world trade which began because of an interest in beautiful things.
