Doomsday scenarios and crises are back in vogue. Time as a limiting factor, unresolved past events, and personal distress give rise to speculation about uncertain future events. But how do we imagine the world after the apocalypse, and what perspective would visual art cast on the times before and after? Will there be a final work of art that conclusively summarizes humanity and the world before its demise? Or will art reflect the otherworld? We imagine a new world within the world, a place for the affirmation of differences, as a refuge from authoritarianism and repression, for experiences outside the familiar routine, where everything can be different, intense and disturbing, incompatible with the familiar, open to dialogue, where utopias become conceivable, a place of reflection called heterotopia.
