Monika Böhme-Sauter lives and works in Vorarlberg, Austria. She studied art history in Graz. The painter, photographer and art historian Monika Böhme-Sauter deals with material, structure and surface, in short, m m s. These terms were already the subtitles of her master's thesis on Tone Fink and have since then run through her entire work. She worked for the following art institutions: vorarlberg museum, Gallery Schafschetzy, Graz, Turmgalerie Dornbirn, ArtHouse Dornbirn, ArtHouse Bregenz, Long Night of Museums.
In this exhibition the artist shows photographs of objects whose colors, materials, surfaces and structures – m s s - are subject to constant change due to various environmental influences. By taking a snapshot, she stops their ongoing aging processes, freezes and preserves them. This aspect of her work tempts the observer to become aware of ones own constant change and to deal with the associated transitory nature of existance. The subjects come from so-called “abandoned places” and Monika Böhme-Sauter's main focus is on objects that are mostly ignored.
